The Boy Who Cried “WOLF”
There was once
a shepherd-boy who kept his flock at a little distance from the village. Once
he thought he would play a trick on the villagers and have some fun at theor
expense. So he ran toward the village crying out, with all his might
“Wolf! Wolf!
Wol! Come and help! The wolves are at my lambs!”
The kins
villagers left their work and work and ran to the field to help him. But when
they got there boy laughed at them for their pains, there was no wolf there.
Still another
day the boy tried the same trick, and the villagers came running to help and
got laughed at again. Then one day wolf did break into the fold and began
killing the lambs. In great fright, the boy ran for help.
“Wolf! Wolf!”
he screamed.”There is a wolf in the flock! Help!”
The villagers
heard him, but they thought it was another mean trick, no one paid the least
attention, or went near him. And the shepherd-boy lost all his sheep
The Purse Of Gold
A
beggar found a leather purse that someone has dropped in a market place.
Opening it, he discovered that contained 100 pieces of gold. Then he heard a
merchant shouted, “A reward! A reward to the one who find my leather purse!”
Being
a honest man, the beggar came forward and handed the purse to the merchat
saying, “Here’s your purse. Will keep your word to give reward now?”
“Reward?”
scoffed the merchant greedily counting amount of gold. “The purse I dropped had
200 pieces of gold in it. You have already stolen more than the reward I’ll
give to you! Go away or I’ll tell you to the police.”
“I’am
the honest man,” said the beggae defiantly. “Lets take this matter to the
court!”
In
the court, the judge patiently listened to both sides of story and said, “I
believe you both. Justice is possible! Merchant, you stated that the purse you
lost contained 200 pieces of gold. Well, that’s a consiredable cost. But the
purse the beggar found had only 100 pieces of gold. Therefore, it couldn’t be
the one you lost.”
And,
with that, the judge gave the purse and all the golds to beggar.
